Purpose:
The purpose of starting a convent was mainly to teach in the parish school, vocation ministry and socio pastoral work, youth ministry. In 1978 took up medical apostolate (dispensary), mother and child care, tailoring classes, for the girls who could not attend the regular school, typing and short hand classes for the unemployed youth. In 1982 a Kannada medium aided High School was established as there was no high school in the locality.
Social-cultural background:
Neermarga is situated at a distance of 15 Kilometers from Mangalore city. Though it is not very far from the city, it was deprived of many essential facilities such as proper transport, medical and educational facility. It is a hilly area and the surface of the land is of laterite stones. The people are simple and hardworking. They earn their living by cultivating vegetables, paddy, etc. Many people are either settled in cities or working in gulf countries and a few of them are in Europe. Their mother tongue is Konkani.
