Purpose:
Empowerment of Physically and Mentally Challenged Children: We are committed to supporting children with physical and intellectual disabilities by providing them with inclusive education, skill development programs, and specialized care. Our goal is to empower them to lead independent and dignified lives by fostering self-confidence and social integration.
Care for Children in Distress: We extend our care and assistance to children facing adversity, including those who are abandoned, orphaned, or from underprivileged backgrounds. Through shelter, education, counseling, and healthcare, we strive to create a nurturing environment where these children can heal, grow, and build a brighter future.
Collaboration with the Jesuits in Bijapur's Mission: We actively work alongside the Jesuits in Bijapur, contributing to their mission of social service, education, and community upliftment. Our collaboration focuses on holistic development, including educational programs, healthcare initiatives, and empowerment projects aimed at improving the quality of life for marginalized communities in the region.
Social-cultural background:
We are in Zalaki, a village located on the National Highway – 52 between Vijayapura and Solapur (Maharashtra). Vijayapura is known for its temples, structural edifices, art and architectural heritages, archaeological sites and cave temples. Catholic faith is totally unknown to Zalaki as well as the surrounding villages. However, several Christian sects have been spreading the Good News to the people since a few decades. Vijayapura district is believed to be a drought- prone even though five rivers are flowing in the district. It is because the the chosen leaders such as Members of Parliament reside in the cities and pay very little interest to the development of the place. There are a few Educational Institutions including Medical Colleges in the District town but the villages are backward in the field of education. Hence people migrate to Southern Karnataka such as Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi districts for education of their children as well as in search of works esp. construction works. There is also short time migration during sugar cane harvest which effects the education of the children.
With the objective to spread education in this area, Karnataka University, Darwad opened its Post-Graduate Study Centre in 1993. Karnataka State Women's University , established in 2003 in the city of Vijayapura, is the only Women's University in Karnataka dedicated exclusively for women's education. The main crops are sugar cane, pulses and maize cultivation. The fruits like pomegranates, grapes and lemon are the chief cash crops. They depend on the rain.
Caste system is prevalent in the villages. The marriages within the family are very common and as a result there are many differently abled children in the villages. The age-old system of lending money on interest is still prevalent in the villages. The need of the hour for us in the place is to empower the physically and mentally challenged children and encourage the youth to go for higher studies as the drop outs are common in the villages.

Approximately 650 students along with the teaching staff have benefited from these sessions and have given a positive and encouraging feedback to the sisters during the evaluation which was conducted at the end of the academic year. The Education Department of Chadchan Taluka was very cooperative and appreciated the selfless service of the sisters to their schools.
Service 2
Sisters were successful in instilling a desire for learning in the children of Durgamurgi community, a community neglected by the rest of the society as they were the swine eaters. No one visited these people. Their children were deprived of basic education even though the Government School was a stone throw distance. The constant visit to these people and meeting the leaders of the community and the school nearby the sisters succeeded to admit all the children to the school including the Anganwadis. During their visits they taught some rhymes, alphabets, numbers etc to the children over a period of one year. Sisters then took a survey of the children belonging to the age group 3 to 6 yrs and the school dropouts.
