Social-cultural background:
Thrikkakara is of historical importance. It is close to the fast growing fort city Kochi, the business capital of Kerala. Catholic Church has a long history going back to the time of Apostle St. Thomas. People belonging to both Syrian and Latin rites live side by side. The population consists of Hindus, Christians and Muslims in the area. There are places of worship of each religion in close proximity. There are many educational institutions that are managed by public and private agencies. The educational standard of most people is high. Many industrial concerns are growing fast and the population keeps growing. There is an inflow of migrant workers coming from the Northern states for labor as the local people are engaged in offices and other works. It is estimated that more than 3000,000 migrant workers from Northern states are working in Kerala alone. As a whole the religious and social atmosphere is peaceful in Cochin.

Service 1
Holy Cross senior citizen home was opened in 2008. This home offers a nest for many elderly persons in the evening of their active life. Sisters take care of them with lots of love and kindness. Everyone feels loved, cared and personally attended to all their needs. Presently there are 34 senior citizens. They are given self contained rooms with all the comforts. When they fall sick , they are taken to the hospital by the sisters. Here not only their physical need is met but also they are given regular spiritual inputs and everyday Eucharist. To keep them fit and alert Yoga, recreation , and games are conducted on a regular basis. Short outings are also organized in between to refresh them. They are happy and contended in our home and they long to come back to our home when they go out occasionally.
