Purpose:
The community was opened in 1983 in the district of Nilgris to help in Devarshola parish , to do social work and to start a School for the children of the tea garden workers of Devarshola and the neighboring tea Estates. Sisters were expected to visit the families and to help people by providing quality education to their children.
Social-cultural background:
Devarshola is situated on a beautiful hill top, surrounded by tea plantation. It is on the boarder of Tamilnadu and Kerala and a large no. of people are settlers from the two different cultures. Over the years they have been co-existing peacefully, speaking both Tamil and Malayalam. Most of them work in the tea estates. There are also some aboriginals residing in the forest area.
The education we impart to the students has contributed a lot for their development. Once the children are educated most of the families shift to the towns for better job opportunities and improved living conditions and future prospects.
