Purpose:
The main purpose of opening a community in Madurai was to keep the new recruits from the region and to prepare them with some background to religious life. While staying with the community they could also be given the chance to do their Higher Secondary Education.
Social-cultural background:
Madurai is the ‘temple city of Tamil Nadu’ which is known for its rich cultural and religious heritage. We belong to the Anjal Nagar parish which is run by the Redemptorist fathers. The convent is situated in the midst of the middle income group of people who are mostly employees and small scale business people. Some catholic families are also there in the vicinity. The sisters of St.Joseph’s of Lyon’s has an Autonomous College for women situated at a distance of 2 kilometers. Some of our sisters are sent there for their studies.
Convent Services
The sisters actively engage in outreach programs, reaching out to the marginalized and underprivileged. They organize and manage welfare activities, empowering communities through compassion and care.
Dedicated to spiritual guidance, the sisters support faith formation and personal growth. They lead prayer services, retreats, and provide emotional and moral support to those in need.
We warmly welcome you to reach out to us. Whether you have questions, need support, or seek spiritual guidance, our doors are always open. At our Christian convent, we are dedicated to serving with love and compassion, inspired by faith and a commitment to the community. Let us walk together in the light of Christ's teachings.

Hostel
The present apostolate is to take care of the hostel girls, run tailoring institute and involve in pastoral work. Two of the sisters are doing their college studies. Some students of Fathima College and other educational Institutes take accommodation in our hostel. Their number ranges from 80 to 100.
Senior Citizens forum
The sisters arrange ( once in a month) meeting for the seniors citizens, a platform where the retired persons can gather and share their life experiences - of their joys and struggles with one another and support each other through their prayers. Sisters also visit the houses of the senior citizens twice in a week and give a listening ear to them. The senior citizens esteem the presence of the sisters.
Tailoring
Short-term courses in tailoring have been part of the women Empowerment, especially for the school dropouts. We were in tie-up with a Central Government project ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana’ (PMKVY) in 2017 and 2018 working along with the Skill India Foundation. More than 100 women have benefited from this tailoring courses. Now we continue with the tailoring classes for the women who come to us.
