Social-cultural background:
The community belongs to Orikkottai parish which has 85 families. The parishners received their faith about 400 years ago from the Jesuit missioners and it has got five substations up to now.
Lack of sufficient rains has changed this place into a parched land since years. Paddy cultivation which is the main source of income of the villagers is affected very badly due to severe drought. The absence of cash crops cultivation, industries and proper colleges many youth from every family have migrated either for job, study or to earn for their livelihood. The people are very simple and co-operative. Due to the strong caste system in this society most of the marriages take place among their relatives through which many children are born with deformities.

The sisters actively engage in outreach programs, reaching out to the marginalized and underprivileged. They organize and manage welfare activities, empowering communities through compassion and care.

Since the whole district of Ramanatapuram is a drought- prone area the living standard of the people is very poor. 85% of the adults specially men folk are out of the district in search of employment. We have organized 51 self help groups (SHG) with 800 members operated under 16 villages. Regular meetings are conducted every month in their own villages or in the centre. Savings are collected monthly and micro credit facilities along with bank loan is arranged to meet the individual needs of the members.
